Waters of The Past (A Trip to Vyatka)

from Legends of The Ancient Vyatka. Part I by Ergot Skomorokh

/

about

The Vyatka River gave its name to the entire land of Vyatka. Finno-Ugric pagans lived on its shores and ancient sanctuaries stood. Surrounded by northern forests, it preserves the spirit of the dense primitive sacrament, in summer it carries its waters through the green spaces of coniferous and deciduous forests, familiar to us from the paintings of fabulous Russian artists, and in winter it is covered with ice and carries cold and snow. After the Russians began to swim along the river from the 12th century, the waters became the site of bloody medieval battles, wooden fortresses grew on the high banks, and the struggle for power between the groups of boyars was accompanied by the development of crafts and trade
